Supper At St. John’s

Jan 8, 2020

Supper at St. John’s Adult Education Program
Winter 2020

Supper at St. John’s returns on Wednesdays, January 22 and runs through March 25. We begin at 6:00 PM with a delicious church-cooked meal, followed by a choice of study to begin at 7:00 PM, concluding promptly at 8:00 PM. Childcare is available. Look for sign-ups during coffee fellowship after worship or contact Libby Dalrymple (cadalrymple85@gmail.com).

There are two 10-week classes from which to choose:

Looking at the Lectionary, facilitated by Patrick Marshall
Patrick will once again lead this highly interactive 10-week class in which we explore the lectionary-based scripture readings for the coming Sunday. Each week we will read the texts and walk through a set of questions that will help us engage and explore the readings. This will give us the opportunity to already be reflecting on the scripture readings before we come to worship on Sunday, as well as to ask questions and provide insights that might help shape the sermon.

Mere Christianity, facilitated by Nancy Davis
How can a good, all-powerful God allow the continuing forms of evil to remain in our world? Why do we ourselves sometimes fail to practice the kind of behavior we expect from others? C.S. Lewis’ much-acclaimed book Mere Christianity offers some well-thought out answers to many such questions in chapters such as “Right and Wrong as a Clue to the Universe,” “The Rival Conceptions of God,” “Forgiveness,” and “Is Christianity Hard or Easy?” The class will discuss these and other challenging ideas from a list of questions available ahead of time, to allow time to ponder Lewis’ thinking. Books will be available ahead of time. Please read Chapters 1-3 for the first class on January 22.

*Youth ages 5th grade-12th grade are invited to join Ridgley during supper in her office for fellowship and bible study every week

We are in need of additional help in the kitchen both as “chief cooks” to plan meals and as “helpers” for a two-hour shift to prepare meals. We have lots of tried and true recipes on file, or the chief cooks can plan their own and we will provide the assistance. Helpers are welcome for a one-time shift or multiple shifts. If you would like to help with the meals, please contact Betsy Miller.

We are also looking for a dedicated clean-up crew. You will be treated to dinner and do not need to participate in the studies. This is an important part of the success of our church program. If you would like to help, please contact Libby Dalrymple.
