Supper at St. John's
Wednesdays, 6:00 pm, resumes January 25
Supper at St. John's will resume on Wednesday, January 25, continuing for 10 weeks. We will gather in Fellowship Hall at 6:00 pm for a delicious home-cooked dinner, followed by a choice of enriching adult studies and a faith-centered activity for children. Our choice of studies this session is:
Peace in Pieces/Pieces of Peace is a course designed as a series of conversations about peacemaking on personal, family and neighborhood levels. This course is intended for pre-confirmation children (grades K-7) and their parents, together. For more information or to join the discussion about how to shape our meetings, speak to Paul or Julie Steege or Howard or Betsy Friend.
God's Story, Your Story is a study series developed by Max Luado, offering a fresh perspective on how your daily life relates to God's grand, epic story. Lucado says "God writes history and God enters the world through normal people like Joseph, Mary and us." In this six-session video study we'll explore passages of the New Testament and discover how the ancient stories of Scripture reveal God's plans for us, and God's support of us today. We will round out the remining 4 weeks of the session with a focused study and discussion on how the deluge of 24/7/365 day "media news" afects us. And, as Christians, how we process and act upon all of this, drawing upon the Bible and our faith.
The Promised Land from the Faith Lessons series developed by Ray Vander Laan is an in-depth tour of the buried, distant, or otherwise forgotten places where the stories of the Bible actually happened. From this cultural perspective, we hope to foster and promote interest in a pilgrimage tour to the Holy Land this fall, as well as connect modern day perspectives and assumptions about even the most well-known Scripture passages.
Disciple Series, the ongoing 34-week in-depth series, will continue.
Sign up at coffee hour, or contact Mike Wagner for more information. We hope you'll join us! |
2012 Trip to the Holy Land
Thursday, January 19, 7:30 pm
Many who attended Supper at St. John's and paticipated in the courses Abraham: The Father of Many Faiths and A Walk Through the Bible expressed a desire for an organized trip to Israel. As a result of this interest, St. John's is going to the Holy Land October 19-30, 2012. We have worked with an experienced tour operator, Morning Star Tours, and they have carefully selected accomodations to ensure a safe and memorable experience for each of us They have booked rooms in some of Israel's finest hotels and retained a renowned tour leader, Susan Marcus. The cost of the tour includes airfare and most meals. For more information, please use the links below to view an online brouchure and slide show. You can also sign up on line using the registration link below.
You may also contact the tour leaders, Nancy Davis, Kris Graham and Dick Oliver for more information.

Single? Join Us for Dinner!
Friday, February 3, 6:30 pm, Carriage House
We're exploring the idea of starting a group of single adults who are part of the St. John's Community. Some folks have suggested that they would enjoy meeting occasionally with others for dinner, a movie, or a visit to local attractions. We'll kick things off with a pot-luck supper on Friday, February 3 at 6:30 pm in the Carriage House. You'll have an opportunity to become better acquainted and to share suggestions for interesting activities. We'll supply the entree and ask that you bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. We're looking forward to having you join us or a casual evening and good conversation. To RSVP, please contact Nancy Higgins or the church office (610-688-5222). |
