In partnership with local churches and the First Presbyterian Church of Houston, St. John’s has been invited to participate in three mission trips to Houston to repair homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey. Teams will be going on the following dates: April 21-29, June 23-30, and July 1-8.
Each team needs people with skills in dry wall, carpentry, and electrical work, plus others ready to assist and learn these skills. Also needed are cooks and good listeners to sit, pray, and talk with homeowners and their children. The teams will stay in a home owned by First Presbyterian. The estimated cost per person is $800 (airfare, rental vehicles, food, and contribution to materials). St. John’s will contribute towards this cost for our volunteers.
The idea for these trips grew out of a Mission Conference that took place in September. We hope that working together on projects such as this will result in stronger ties among our local churches and positively impact our larger community. Most importantly we will be demonstrating God’s love at work! If you are interested or want more information, contact Christine Markle, Nancy Higgins, or Susanne Engheta.
